redbox coinstar alliance

Timeline of milestones and achievements from 2005 – Present

Tukaiz and Redbox have established a unique partnership since 2005. From the beginning stages of a once start-up company, to the multi-million dollar business Redbox has become, Tukaiz has collaborated with Redbox to help them become one of the most popular entertainment brands in the country. Tukaiz has provided strategy development, creative design, online marketing management programming, print production and fulfillment for all Redbox marketing collateral since the beginning. This includes all printed materials at point-of-sale on each kiosk and all marketing materials seen in-stores.

We are extremely proud of our collaboration and we’ve developed a solid partnership. Now that you’ve seen all we have to offer, let us show you how we’ve grown together. To help illustrate the evolution of this relationship, we’ve developed our Redbox Coinstar Timeline.

2005: Variable Data & Expanding Market Share

2005: Variable Data & Expanding Market Share

The utilization of variable data, successfully expanding Redbox market share and increasing the number of kiosks throughout the country

Tukaiz and Redbox began their partnership in 2005, when Redbox was just a small start-up company, with high hopes in becoming a household name.

2005 Promo Cards

THE REDBOX NEED

The first project between Tukaiz and Redbox was for printed promotional cards where each had to have a unique promo code, so various retailers could hand them out to consumers for a free movie. These codes were to use personalized and variable data so they could be sent to various store locations where Redbox kiosks were currently located.

HOW TUKAIZ DELIVERED

At the time, not many specialized in handling customer data and incorporating that data as variables when printing marketing materials. The use of variable data in the development of promotional cards is a very specialized process, and Tukaiz was the first in the U.S. to embrace this technology back in 1993. Our initial project was a success and we delivered effective promotional pieces that helped to expand Redbox market share and customer base, while increasing the number of kiosks they had throughout the country.

2006: Dedicated Research & Development

2006: Dedicated Research & Development

A time of dedicated research and development to provide reliable, effective and efficient Redbox products and services

The success of a business relies heavily on having a culture with a sense of purpose and meaning. Providing products and services that are reliable, effective and efficient is also necessary for any company to thrive in the marketplace.

Machine Decals

THE REDBOX NEED

Redbox proposed a concept to Tukaiz as to how they wanted kiosks to operate, as well as the amount of variables that needed to be considered. For all kiosks to operate in the most efficient manner, dedicated research and development was needed to determine the right type of material(s) for the lightbox art, POP and POS pieces and various marketing pieces for the machines.

Redbox soon started to deploy more kiosks all across the country, so they needed every kiosk to be capable of operating in a wide-range of environments.

HOW TUKAIZ DELIVERED

With the number of environments the kiosks had to operate in, Tukaiz needed to ensure Redbox was being provided marketing materials that were efficient indoor/outdoor and withstand extreme hot and cold temperatures, direct sunlight and moisture.

No other marketing services provider has achieved success in perfecting the production of on-kiosk elements and continuously proposed more and more efficient methods throughout the production process for Redbox. Utilizing our existing knowledge, Tukaiz performed extensive research and development on the type of stock and printing techniques chosen for the kiosk lightboxes. Redbox did not have to take on this task, as Tukaiz was already experienced in using reverse-engineering, print testing and ink experimentation, to come up with a fail-proof solution, proven by the rapid success Redbox experienced at this time.

As the number of kiosks throughout the country skyrocketed, it allowed Tukaiz to pass substantial savings on to Redbox that equated to an 8% decrease in cost. This was a major accomplishment and validated how both organizations worked together to become partners in the development of a successful brand.

2007: Innovative Change

2007: Innovative Change

Bringing innovative change, Tukaiz developed a customized online marketing management tool, to help Redbox in the production of marketing materials

Times and technology are endlessly evolving, and as an organization we must adapt to stay at the top of an ever-changing marketplace.

THE REDBOX NEED

With the number of kiosks increasing, so did the number of Field Service Representatives (FSR’s). At this time, the method Redbox had for mass ordering of kiosk marketing materials proved inefficient and time‑consuming. Redbox needed an easier, more proficient way for their FSR’s to order and receive the necessary marketing materials.

HOW TUKAIZ DELIVERED

Customized Online Marketing Management System for Redbox

Tukaiz created a customer service group email for Redbox, allowing any emails sent to the customized address to be seen instantly by the Tukaiz team, thus increasing our level of communication. Tukaiz’ Interactive, Print Production and Fulfillment Teams worked closely with Redbox to develop an online ordering and reporting site for their FSR’s. The site developed, includes numerous POP and POS marketing materials that are used in and around retail stores, allowing FSR’s to order inventoried or print-on-demand marketing collateral and machine marketing materials. Tukaiz streamlined the Redbox ordering process, resulting in a more fluid operations strategy.

2008: Continuous Production Improvement

2008: Continuous Production Improvement

The exploration of new and technologically advanced operations to enhance Redbox growth and overall functionality

A good company will not just perform regular maintenance, but always explore new and improved solutions while continuously experimenting, to consistently provide their customers with results that exceed expectations.

THE REDBOX NEED

Redbox continued to see steadfast growth. To keep up with demand and stay ahead of competition, they needed to re-evaluate their current functionality and the way they were operating on a multitude of levels. Redbox needed to efficiently measure how they were running as a business, assess the areas where they could improve and how to do so.

During this time, Redbox was also looking to increase their range of services provided to consumers and decided to test-market the rental of video games from their kiosks. Since it was experimental, production costs had to be minimal and best practices were key.

HOW TUKAIZ DELIVERED

Video Game Promo - Just Dance 4

Tukaiz supported Redbox with their new concept for video game rentals and used the same technology and materials used for the movie box art and marketing collateral. Using the same offset and digital technologies allowed us to keep production cost to a minimum for the launch of game titles.

Tukaiz stepped in and performed a thorough evaluation on Redbox operations and discovered two key areas we could help improve upon:

  1. Lightbox Material Improvement – Retail stores each have different standards and diverse environmental conditions that at times were affecting the way the kiosk marketing materials looked in various locations. For example, different bulb wattages were being used inside the lightboxes, affecting the way the movie box art was being seen from store to store. Tukaiz worked with suppliers and performed additional research and development to implement an even better solution. The stock for the movie box art was altered, clearing the problem of the translucency of the lightboxes and how they looked in numerous locations.
  2. Smarter Printing Technique – The volume and demand continually increased with the printed movie box art and game titles, allowing Tukaiz to extend a 16% overall discount to Redbox. Tukaiz also evaluated how the movie box art was being produced and determined there was a smarter way. The marketing materials could now be produced on-demand and deployed to even more locations than before. This resulted in faster production time and additional cost savings for Redbox.

2009 - 2010: Supporting Environmental Initiatives

2009 - 2010: Supporting Environmental Initiatives

Tukaiz increased environmental standards and again lowered production costs for Redbox

Supporting environmental initiatives is an imperative aspect in business today. Caring to take the time to assess things a business can do to not only lower their own costs, but also be environmentally sound, is a respectable quality.

THE REDBOX NEED

With environmental responsibility becoming increasingly important, Redbox turned to Tukaiz to find a more responsible means for their Field Service Representatives to recycle and discard the stock when changing out marketing collateral.

HOW TUKAIZ DELIVERED

During this time, the stock that was being used to produce the box art was discontinued, making it the perfect time to find a more environmentally friendly alternative for Redbox. After months of additional research and testing, the new stock chosen was not only 100% recyclable, but provided Redbox with another 10% cost savings. The new stock is custom-made especially for Redbox, with specific ingredients to compliment indoor/outdoor and geographic locations. To inform the Redbox FSR’s that the materials were eco-friendly and to be recycled, a statement letter was included with each shipment so they were able to provide proof to municipalities when discarding the previous stock. Tukaiz also set a new standard by printing the #5 category recycle logo on each movie box art. This helped Redbox communicate to their consumers they were applying responsible and environmentally safe business practices (this continues through today).

2011 - 2012: Partners in New Business Ventures

2011 - 2012: Partners in New Business Ventures

Alula

Orango

Tukaiz continues to support Redbox in their new business initiatives, expanding Redbox services to Ticket Sales

To continue to flourish in the marketplace, a company must always explore new possibilities and think of ways they can provide more products and services to consumers.

During this time Coinstar acquired Redbox, providing them with new business ventures, such as Alula and Orango. Both reached out to Tukaiz to provide them with marketing production support. Tukaiz now does creative, print production, large format POP graphics, in-store marketing and fulfillment for these recent start-ups. Tukaiz also created an additional customized group email address for Coinstar, to maintain an effective communication stream and timely reporting.

THE REDBOX NEED

Products and services over the years have become progressively consumer-focused. Redbox needed to make their current service offerings increasingly relevant to the consumer, by developing more engaging customer interaction with each kiosk.

HOW TUKAIZ DELIVERED

Tukaiz strategized and developed a wide-range of on-kiosk creative promotions and in-store POP marketing collateral, such as ceiling banners, door decals and window clings. Each was designed to support current movies or games, as well as coincide with the holiday and season of the year. Every element was attention-getting with high-impact visuals. This helped continually re-invent each retail kiosk location into a unique entertainment experience and positively increased the time each consumer spent interacting with the machines.

Tukaiz now produces marketing collateral for each kiosk location on a monthly basis, that supports specific movie and game titles as well as “dress-up kits” that turn certain kiosks into movie characters. Each of these marketing materials are versioned for each specific location.

In-Store POP

THE REDBOX TICKETS NEED

With the marketplace becoming increasingly consumer-driven, Redbox again had the desire to expand the products and services they had to offer, and turned to Tukaiz with the idea of introducing Ticket Sales from their kiosks. This was a major campaign introduction, so testing was necessary to slowly integrate this new business initiative.

Redbox Tickets

HOW TUKAIZ DELIVERED REDBOX TICKETS

The Tickets campaign required extensive coordination, detailed project management, high-quality print production and expedited fulfillment. Tukaiz and Redbox co-developed intriguing and attention-grabbing POP/POS marketing collateral for kiosks within the test market areas, to integrate Ticket Sales for various events. Each kiosk location carried different event Tickets, so our extensive variable data and versioning technology was used to deliver unique pieces on-demand, and ship to each location within days.

2013 & Beyond: Forward Thinking

2013 & Beyond: Forward Thinking

Tukaiz continues to maintain and fulfill Redbox kiosk marketing needs, currently test-marketing digital lightboxes with animation at select locations

Animated Digital Light Box

THE REDBOX NEED

More and more movies, video games and events are happening each year and it is vital for Redbox automated entertainment kiosks to be maintained and up-to-date. Redbox had reached a point where more regional and specific marketing materials are needed to support the brand coast to coast, with different and relative messaging that is region specific.

HOW TUKAIZ WILL CONTINUE TO DELIVER

Tukaiz currently maintains and fulfills all Redbox marketing needs at each kiosk, no matter the location. From this point forward, Tukaiz is partnering with Redbox to ensure that all locations have distinct features that enable consumer action, while tailoring the promotions to each specific location. This task illustrates Tukaiz’ variable abilities, and how far we are willing to go to help Redbox become increasingly successful.

Recyclable #2 Stock Weather Test

In 2013, an improved #2 recyclable stock will be introduced, making it capable to be disposed of at even more municipalities than the current #5 stock. Tukaiz has conducted extensive field tests throughout the U.S. to ensure it is fully weather resistant. Tukaiz plans to switch all box art stock to the new recyclable #2 by early summer. This product and development process has taken over two years to create.

In addition, to aid Redbox in becoming even more technologically advanced, we are currently test-marketing digital lightboxes throughout the country, complete with full animation. The goal of integrating the digital animation is to further engage consumer interaction for Redbox.
